Is Your Chosen Info Product Marketable?

Before spending a lot of valuable time putting a product together, do some research and make sure there is a market for the information that you have in mind, or if perhaps you need to consider another area. You can do a free keyword search using Google’s Keyword Tool and find out if the area you’re considering is searched by a lot of people.

Visit online forums related to your target market, and get a feel for what others are saying about it. Websites that offer products or services that are similar to your chosen interest are also excellent places to spend some time. You can ask your customers what they need. If you have newsletter subscribers, send an email out and ask them what they’d like to see more of. You can even offer them a free gift (such as a free report) in exchange for their feedback. A poll on your website works well also.

Start With An Outline Or A Table of Contents.

Check the TOC of other books (and ebooks) that are written about a similar subject as yours (you can do this online at most large book stores) – and this will give you lots of ideas as to the most important things you need to include in yours.

Go through the outline and brainstorm each section until you’re happy with the results. The outline breaks the process down into attainable steps – and when you have that nailed down – you’ll need to go through each section and research that specific topic. Have you found out as much as you can about that topic so that your visitors can depend on coming to your website to learn something new?

Putting It All Together

Once your research is done, it’s a matter of sitting down and actually doing the writing – section by section. With your TOC and research already pre-written, it shouldn’t be too difficult to go through (following your structure) and put the first phase of the product together. Some writers even find it helpful to record their thoughts or have another person “interview” them. Once the audio is transcribed, they already have a big portion of their info product in hand.

Having done a very, very rough draft of your book – go back through again and start editing, changing things around, omitting items here and there, and so on until you have a finished draft. Set it aside for at least 24 hours – then go back and repeat the editing process all over again until you’re pleased with what you have produced. The final step in this phase is to hand it over to a trusted relative or friend who can look it over and give you honest, constructive criticism.

Virtually everyone who comes to the internet nowadays is looking for information…to solve a particular problem, learn how to build an internet business (affiliate marketing business in the case of this website) or find a fudge brownie or other recipe. The list goes on and on, creating a great need for massive amounts of information.

And while it’s true that virtually all business owners need lots of quality content to build their internet businesses, not all of them are going to create it themselves. So in this article we will discuss ways to not only acquire the content you need to get your own online business up and running, but we’ll also take a look at information products - also known as digital products – as a way of monetization, in the form of ebooks, reports, ecourses, tutorials, etc., on your affiliate marketing website.

One source that many online business owners are turning to for content to use on their websites or newsletters is article submission sites, or “article banks”. People do this sometimes because of time restraints, and sometimes because of a lack of confidence in their writing skills. Everyone needs articles and other content in various forms, but not everyone can create it themselves, which is where information product marketing comes in.

Fresh, quality, interesting content is the lifeblood of any theme-based internet business. Not only will the articles and other info products used to build a website be a determining factor in whether visitors stick around once they arrive at a website (is it interesting? informative? entertaining? does it solve a problem?) but done right (meaning optimizing the content and your website for the search engines) it can also determine whether someone visits your site in the first place (attract that crucial traffic).

And, as we have discussed in other articles, without traffic, your affiliate marketing business will flounder and die. You need to give people a reason to visit your website, and offering them lots of useful information is one way to do just that. “Where Are These Info Products Coming From?”

Nowadays you can find articles and other info products on virtually any topic you can imagine, so no matter what the theme of your website, you will most likely be able to find products to complement it. A quick search on Google will lead you right to a storehouse of information, but if you are interested in offering some of these products in your affiliate marketing business, you need only to pay a visit to Clickbank or one of the other affiliate networks to find products that go hand in hand with the theme of your website.

Just be aware that these articles normally can’t be modified or resold, and no one else can add their own links or other information to them. In fact, when they’re published, the author’s resource or “bio” box must be left intact, which can essentially pull traffic away from the site where it’s published, back to the website whose owner wrote the article.

Use And Promote Your Own Info Products

There are many internet business owners who are realizing the value of writing good articles or other info products, or even purchasing and re-writing PLR content. They will then submit the articles to article banks for the exposure and traffic, or offer the articles or other digital products for sell on their websites.

For instance, you can write an article with your resource box attached, submit it to one or more of these banks, and it will be distributed to other website owners all over the web, which could result in a real boost in traffic to your business. You can create info products with minimal overhead, and you get to keep 100% of the profit, unless of course, you decide to start your own affiliate marketing program and have others selling your product for you.
