Creating Your Own Website – Part 2
Finding Your Niche
We’ve gone over how important it is to own your own affiliate marketing website, now let’s get into some of the basics of actually creating your own website, including finding a profitable topic, or niche, for your site.
What Is Your Chosen Theme – or Niche?
The first consideration, of course, is to choose a theme or niche for your website. What kinds of products do you plan to promote from your site? Will you be offering a service? Do you have a hobby or other interest that you’re passionate about? Who is your target audience and what products or services would they be interested in?
Are you interested in sports, scrap booking, horses, recipes, politics, shoes, electronics, the medical field, or any of the thousands of other topics that could be covered on a website? Try to find a subject you’re passionate about – or that you’re at least willing to learn about. It’s much easier writing about and researching topics that you have some interest in.
Decide what topic you want your affiliate marketing business to cover and stick to that theme throughout your site. If your site is about gardens – stick to garden supplies, ornaments, planting, and so on. The great deal you got on that killer HP 530 Notebook PC would be better represented on another site. Don’t try to cater to everybody on the internet.
Plan ahead and have a clear picture of the layout of your website, because your website is your “store front” on the web, and the first impression that your visitors will have of your business. So keep your potential customers in mind in your website design.
It’s important that you give your visitors the perception that you are a professional, and that you have paid attention to every detail of your business, so they know that you haven’t just thrown a website together with no consideration for them – your potential customers/clients.

Keywords and Keyword Phrases
Once you have chosen a theme for your website, you need to choose an appropriate domain name and title for it. Do a keyword search for the chosen topic of your site, and narrow it down to a good list to work into your content. The more targeted your keywords are, the less competition you’ll have at the search engines. Remember to include your main keyword in the title of your website, and even in the domain name, if possible.
Now you can create your content around each of your other keywords and keyword phrases from your list. Try to use one of your keywords in the title of each page or post on your site, as well as in each subheading within the page or post, and these keywords should be displayed within Heading Tags.
Take the time to optimize each of your web pages for the search engines, as you create them. More about keyword usage and Website Optimization here.
Finding your niche, or theme, for your new affiliate marketing website can be tricky, but do your keyword research, visit forums and other websites on topics you’re interested in, and do Google searches to find out what your competition would be in your chosen field. Creating your own website can be a rewarding experience and if you are willing to put in the effort, you can have a site that you will be proud of, and one that will develop into a profitable business for you.
