There’s no question that in this struggling economy, more people than ever are searching for ways to turn their blogging expertise and experiences into ways to make money online. There are many ways to earn a living online for anyone who is willing to put in the time and effort necessary, but one increasingly popular and very profitable way to achieve this is through the online affiliate marketing of your own product. Create an information product about a topic you’re very knowledgeable on, and offer it to your readers.

It seems like everyone is developing information products. It is actually a stroke of genius. Why do people come to the Internet in the first place? They come for information. Instead of letting them root around the search engines for bits and pieces, give them all that they need in one place – your blog.

You might be asking, “Why my blog?” Well, the better question is “Why not?” You spend time every day writing about a specific topic for your readers. They keep coming back because of two things:

• Your voice
• Your knowledge

Give them more of your voice with informational products. What types of informational products can you offer? Let’s start small and work our way up.

Special Reports

You can also create shorter products such as special reports. These can be given away as freebies when buying an eBook or other informational product. they can be a compilation of past blog posts with a bit more information sprinkled in. special reports usually range from 5 to around 20 pages. The longer ones can be sold for profit.

EBooks

EBooks are digital books that can be downloaded to your computer in a few minutes. They keep the bookshelves of your home from getting cluttered and can be shared much quicker and easier than a regular book.

But, these are not just any eBooks. These eBooks are created by you and can’t be gotten anywhere but your blog. You can blog on all areas of your topic that readers have shown an interest in. Blog posts only touch the surface. You can give your readers more in-depth information in an eBook.

Other Products

There are dozens of informational products you can create to monetize your blog. From here, you can branch out into workbooks, audio, video, e-courses and the like.

But, before we get ahead of ourselves, be sure that you ready your blog for selling. You will need a shopping cart so that readers can easily browse and purchase your products.

There are many advantages to informational products on your blog. For one, there is no overhead. You have the knowledge and you can create the products. You don’t have to work from scratch. Use archived articles to get you started.

So, what are you waiting for? Use what you love to create a new stream of income for you and your family.

If creating a successful online home business from your passions or hobbies appeals to you, then niche affiliate marketing is probably your best choice of business models for making money online. Affiliate marketing and niche affiliate marketing go hand in hand, but there are some differences in the two.

Affiliate Marketing

As most everyone who spends any time online knows, affiliate marketing is simply promoting another person’s/company’s products or services.

These people (or businesses) have products that they have already created, which means the work has already been done for you, and when you sign on as an affiliate for them you are paid a commission each time you refer a sale from your site.

This sounds like a very easy process, and in theory it is. However, in order to generate sales, it is important that you give good endorsements of the products or services you are promoting and that you have a good marketing campaign in place in order to bring potential customers to your site. Don’t count on throwing a few affiliate banners and links on your site and having customers flocking to your offerings. This lack of good promotion rarely produces the results you desire and will only leave you disappointed and disillusioned.

Niche Affiliate Marketing Vs. Affiliate Marketing

Having said that, let’s discuss the differences in ‘niche’ affiliate marketing versus regular affiliate marketing. When you promote products/services that are targeted to reach a specific, smaller group of people, this is known as niche affiliate marketing. Therefore, for optimum results your site as well as the products you are promoting should all be closely related to this same tight little niche.

For instance, if you own a website where you promote all kinds of golf equipment – from golf ‘balls’ to golf ‘bags’ – this would be considered affiliate marketing. However, if you decide instead to promote to a more refined audience by offering only golf ‘clubs’ from your site, this would be ‘niche’ affiliate marketing. You could even refine your niche further by offering only ‘Callaway’ golf clubs.

For maximum effectiveness (and profits) when potential customers type your keywords (golf clubs) into the search engines and arrive at your site, the ads and promotions you have displayed on your site should reflect your specific niche. If your niche is ‘golf clubs’, your visitors are typically not going to be interested in seeing ads about hunting or fishing gear. The number of visitors to your site may be fewer than if you were offering a number of different products, but they will also be more targeted and more apt to click on your offers, which is how you will make money online.

Another example of niche affiliate marketing would be, for example, instead of focusing on people with pets, focus on cat owners who want to feed their pets a natural diet. Dog owners who want to buy sports-themed clothing for Fido and Spot is much more focused than ‘pet owners’. If you can find a niche that’s looking specifically for the product you’re promoting, and that niche doesn’t have a lot of competition marketing to it already, your chances of making sales will go up a lot higher.

Narrowing the number of people you market to may seem counter-intuitive at first. After all, conventional wisdom says you want to reach the largest number of people possible in order to get sales. However, in affiliate marketing, this strategy could limit your income.

The Internet is a big place and there are thousands of people competing with you. If you just focus on broad categories of people, such as ‘adults’ or ‘homeowners’, you’ll probably get lost in the vast sea of other people promoting to this same enormous group. By narrowing your focus, you’ll get traffic that‘s much more likely to convert.

Make Money Online By Providing Value

And on a side note here, in order to be considered reliable and trustworthy in your chosen niche, you must put some thought and research into the content you display on your site, as well as the site itself. You will earn much more trust and respect by offering useful, original content than if you just throw rehashed junk on your site that you have copied from elsewhere on the internet and that has no value to your visitors.

Providing a site that is helpful and inviting will make it obvious to your visitors that you take pride in your business, and they in turn will be much more likely to stick around long enough to take notice of your affiliate banners and links. Your visitors are not going to put any trust in you or the products you promote if you don’t come across as reliable and professional to them.

When you put some thought, along with effort and research into your niche affiliate marketing business, the potential for success and making money online is great. The most important thing is finding and getting the attention of the perfect candidate for your affiliate products, and providing them something useful to gain their trust and their business.

There was a time when the best way to get affiliate marketing leads was to buy lists that contained thousands of names to which you would send out offers to through the mail.

opt-in-form

However, one of the best ways to compile your own email marketing lists nowadays is by using opt-in email mailing lists whereby people give you their names for free by signing up for your newsletter or other information on your website. For instance, you have a website on which you give information about the best weight loss programs, where you also promote one or more affiliate marketing programs pertaining to weight loss.

You might have links to some popular diet aids or diet food products sold by companies that you are affiliated with, and when a visitor to your site clicks on one of your links and makes a purchase, you are paid a commission on that sale.

You could have links to websites that actually offer programs that help you to lose weight for a monthly fee, and when someone purchases through one of those links, you get a residual income from the monthly fees that they pay.

There are a number of different types of affiliate marketing models, and regardless of which one you choose, you can generate affiliate marketing leads by using your own mailing list, as long as you have visitors to your site looking for the information you are offering.

When you’re ready to start your own opt-in email list, you will have quite a few list management software programs to choose from. You should choose one that fits your budget and your anticipated demand, and you’ll have a choice of anything from the more expensive ones that come with all the bells and whistles – all the way to free programs. In the beginning, you probably won’t need to spend lots of money for a list management program, but if your business takes off you can always transfer your list to a higher-end provider later on.

Once you have your mailing list software or service set up and ready to go, you will need to get affiliate marketing leads to go into it. If your site is about weightloss programs, as we mentioned before, simply ask your site’s visitors to register at your site or to sign up for your newsletter or occasional updates which will include more great information on weightloss (or whatever your topic is).

It’s important to entice people to want to sign up to your mailing list and not just throw up a form and hope for the best. You can do this by offering them something of value that is relevant to your site’s topic, such as a report on the “top 10 weightloss tips”, in return for opting in to your list.

Now that you have people signing up to receive your newsletter, you have a ready-made audience for your affiliate products or services. You can write quality, informative articles to send directly to their inboxes, which include links to the programs you wish to promote.

And of course, always make sure that you know something about the affiliate marketing products you are promoting to your list. When possible, try the products yourself so that you know that what you are recommending to your list is worth the money. You will also be able to point out its best features and also any negatives, which will promote trust amongst your prospective customers.

In order to get the attention of the search engines and thereby attract organic traffic to your website, which is the lifeblood of your site by the way, there are things you must do to ‘optimize’ your site for those search engines. And whether you have an affiliate marketing website, a niche website, or any other type of site, the rules are the same: In order to improve search engine ranking and get traffic without spending a fortune, you must have a search engine optimized website.

Setting up a website that is search engine optimized so that you can pull traffic from the search engines can be a difficult and confusing task if you haven’t done it before. The process will start of course, with doing your keyword research to find the words/phrases that your target audience uses to locate the products, services, or information that they are looking for and that you offer. Affiliate Marketing, often thought to be one of the easiest and most effective ways to earn money online, is not as simple as it appears to be in most cases.  There is a lot of work that goes into any successful business, and affiliate marketing is no different.  The competition in this business is grueling, so to be able to set yourself apart from everyone else will take some effort and persistence.

Having a willingness to learn everything you can about affiliate marketing, and utilizing the proper tools and skills will be necessary to operating an effective, profitable online business, and if you don’t have these things, it is important that you acquire them.  Let’s discuss some of the more important tools and qualities that one needs in order to be successful at affiliate marketing.

Affiliate Marketing Website

Having your own professional looking, user-friendly website is the first step in building a successful affiliate marketing business.  Your website will be your store front which will appeal to your visitors and encourage them to click on the product or service links you have displayed, hopefully making a purchase – or it won’t.  Therefore, it is very important that you make an effort to build a solid foundation – website – that will appeal to your prospects before you move on to other aspects of the business.

People Search For Information – Not Products

The content that you provide on your affiliate marketing website will also be of utmost importance.  Remember that most people come to the internet searching for information, and not necessarily to make a purchase.   So providing interesting, useful content that is relevant to the topic of your website will not only boost your reputation online as someone who has an interesting website – perhaps even providing needed solutions to someone’s problems – but your content can also help you to achieve higher rankings with the search engines through proper usage of your site’s keywords.

In general, people love to read interesting, helpful articles, and this is an excellent way to establish yourself as a credible expert in your field.  The more credible and trustworthy you are, the better your chances of building a strong consumer base.  If you are endorsing a particular product, for instance, people need to know that they can trust your opinions before they are going to buy from you.

Offer Incentives – Build A List

Offering incentives that will be of value to potential customers who come to your site is another way of setting yourself apart from the masses, and encouraging your visitors to come back again.  Because of the high competition in affiliate marketing, you must use any means possible to bring attention to your business, and incentives can help in that regard.  Offering these freebies in return for signing up for your free newsletter or e-zine is also an excellent way to build an opt-in email list so that you can keep in touch with your prospects through email, and present other offers to them that you have found to be helpful to you.

You Must Have Targeted Traffic

Attracting highly targeted traffic to your website should be at the top of your list of things to do to insure a successful affiliate marketing business.  Without traffic you will have no business – so launching an aggressive campaign to attract visitors to your site is a must.  Being at the top of the search engine listings is of course the cheapest way to get traffic, and one of the most important factors in getting high rankings with the search engines is having a lot of links pointing back to your site – so link building should take up a substantial amount of your time.

Link building can be accomplished in a number of ways, but one of the most popular and effective ways is through article submissions, which doesn’t cost you anything.  Many website owners either do not have the time to write their own material or they may not have a talent for writing, and they also don’t want to pay to have articles written for them – however they must obtain the content to go on their websites from somewhere.

As a result, many of these people choose to visit article banks (directories) to get the material for their sites – and this material comes in the form of articles that you (and others) have written and submitted to the directories with back links to your website embedded in the content.  You will need to write unique, original articles that are relevant to your site’s theme and include links to your website within the content, then submit each article to as many sites as you can find – and there are tons of them out there that you can submit to. Rather than write each article from scratch, many people just take the same original articles they write for their own site and re-write them so that the article is unique, to avoid the duplicate content issue.

Here is a partial list of some of the most popular article submission directories that you can submit your articles to for maximum exposure:

There are many others – just do a search for “article directories” – and have at it.

Not only are you pulling traffic to your site by embedding your links in the articles you are submitting, but the articles also help with your page ranking which will eventually get your website placed higher in the search listings.  It’s a win-win situation.  When other website owners link to your articles, or use them on their sites – they will have the benefit of fresh content for their site, and you will have the benefit of the link back to your site.

In addition to having the tools mentioned here, healthy doses of discipline, patience, creativity, resourcefulness, persistence and determination will all be essential to maximize your earning potential and help you to stick with your affiliate marketing business through the ups and downs that you will surely encounter throughout the process.  You most likely will not see the results you hope for right away, but if you hang in there and keep working at it, the sky is the limit in this business, and you are in control of just how high you are willing to take it!
